Overnight Glamping

in Safari-Style Tents

Our Little Jungle Hideaway

We’re a Tico, a Gringa, and our two “Tingo” kids—and for the past 15 years, we’ve been slowly creating our own little slice of jungle magic.

Chorro Ecolodge is tucked into the mountains of Esquipulas, about 25 minutes from Quepos, where the Wi-Fi works surprisingly well but the river, waterfall and rainforest are still the main attractions.

This isn’t a fancy resort—and we like it that way. Think safari tents tucked beneath the trees, morning coffee to the sound of the river, waterfall swims, muddy feet, bonfires, good food and nights when the jungle is louder than you expected.

What started as a crazy little family project has grown into a place we love sharing with couples, families, friends and retreat groups looking for something a little different from the usual Costa Rica vacation.

Come slow down. Explore. Swim. Laugh. Get a little dirty. Sit by the fire. Basically, come play in our backyard.

We think you’ll like it here. 🌿

Glamping, Jungle Style

At Chorro, you’ll sleep safari-tent style—comfy beds, fans, electricity, hot showers and the rainforest right outside your door. Just enough comfort, with plenty of jungle.

Wake up to the sound of the river, grab a coffee and see what the day brings. Wander down to the waterfall for a swim, explore the trails, roll out a yoga mat, spot toucans and butterflies—or do absolutely nothing in a hammock. We fully support that too.

When evening rolls around, gather around the fire, pour yourself something good, listen to the jungle come alive and look up. The stars out here are pretty hard to beat.

Chorro isn't about packing your day with things to do. Swim when you feel like it. Wander. Nap. Play. Get muddy. Stay up too late around the fire.

That’s kind of the point. 🌿

At Chorro, you’re definitely not the only one staying in the jungle.

Toucans call from the treetops, blue morpho butterflies float through camp, monkeys occasionally swing by to check out the new arrivals, and scarlet macaws make their very loud, very colorful entrance overhead.

Some days the jungle is peaceful. Other days it feels like everyone showed up at once.

There are no guarantees about who you’ll meet—that’s part of the fun. But keep your eyes open, because around here you never really know who might wander, fly, flutter or swing past next.

They were here first. We’re just lucky enough to share the place with them.

Your Home in the Jungle

Chorro keeps things small with just four safari-style tents, tucked into the rainforest above the river. You get the fun of sleeping in the jungle—without actually having to rough it.

Two tents sleep up to four guests, with one queen bed, one twin and a pull-out trundle. Two larger tents sleep up to six, with one queen, two twins and two pull-out trundles.

Inside, you’ll find comfy beds with soft linens, ceiling fans, electricity and plenty of outlets—because even in the jungle, somebody always needs to charge their phone. The larger tents also have a mini fridge and coffee maker.

Each tent has its own private bathroom just steps away, with a hot-water, open-air jungle shower and an eco-friendly composting toilet. We provide biodegradable bath products, too, because everything eventually makes its way back to the land and river we love.

Simple. Comfortable. A little wild. Exactly how we like it

More Than a Place to Sleep

Chorro was built for gathering, playing, moving and spending time together.

There’s a shared kitchen for morning coffee and late-night snacks, an open-air teak yoga platform overlooking the rainforest, a fire pit for nights under the stars, plenty of places to hang out—and yes, our own waterfall and river are right here too. Not a bad backyard.

Much of Chorro was built by hand, little by little. Rocks for the trails were carried up from the river one at a time, and much of our furniture was made from recycled pallets and reclaimed wood. It’s not fancy or perfect—and that’s part of what we love about it.

We also host private retreats for up to 20 guests, with plenty of space to come together and enough jungle to disappear for a while when you need some quiet.

And because even jungle people occasionally need Netflix, email or a Zoom call, we have Starlink Wi-Fi throughout the property. You can disconnect if you want to. We just won’t force you. 😂

Come for the jungle. Stay connected—or don’t. We’re not judging

Come Hungry

You’re welcome to bring groceries and make yourself at home in our fully equipped shared kitchen. Morning coffee in your pajamas? Pasta after a waterfall swim? Go for it.

But if you’d rather let someone else do the cooking, take a short walk up the hill to the home of our neighbor and dear friend, Doña Luz.

She cooks traditional Costa Rican meals over her wood-burning stove, and somehow everything tastes better up there. Depending on the meal, you might find yourself making tortillas alongside her, trying something grown nearby, or simply sitting around the table eating way more than you planned.

It’s home cooking, Costa Rican style—simple, delicious and served with a whole lot of heart.

And fair warning: you may come back talking about Doña Luz as much as the waterfall.

Feeling Adventurous?

You could spend your entire stay swimming in the river, hanging out by the waterfall and doing absolutely nothing. We highly recommend this at least once.

But when you’re ready to explore, we can help arrange some pretty great adventures:

  • 🍫 Make chocolate from cacao (and eat plenty along the way).

  • 🌉 Cross hanging bridges through primary rainforest and swim beneath a 120-foot waterfall.

  • 🧘‍♀️ Roll out your mat for private jungle yoga on our open-air platform.

  • 🌊 Go whitewater rafting on the Naranjo River with our friends at H2O Adventures.

  • 🍽️ Make tortillas and share a meal with Doña Luz, cooked over her traditional wood-burning stove.

  • 🌶️ Visit a local spice farm and discover what Costa Rica tastes like straight from the source.

Or mix a few together and make a whole day of it.

Adventure hard. Waterfall often. Eat well. Repeat.
